Jack Grealish is the 10th, but who are the nine other Everton players to win Premier League’s ‘Player of the Month’ award?
Jack Grealish has joined an esteemed list of Everton talents following his latest achievement at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Grealish joined Everton from Man City this summer, moving away from the Etihad Stadium on a season-long loan after slipping down Pep Guardiola‘s pecking order in recent seasons.
The 30-year-old has hit the ground running, with Football Insider understanding that Everton are considering making Grealish’s deal permanent after notching four assists in two starts.
Having helped David Moyes‘ side to wins over Wolves and Brighton, the winger has been rewarded for his impact, being handed the Premier League Player of the Month award for August.
Duncan Ferguson (February 1995)
Duncan Ferguson became the first Everton player to ever win a Player of the Month award, being rewarded for three consecutive league goals against Chelsea, Leeds United, and QPR.
The striker’s efforts were crucial at the time, helping the Toffees to steer clear of an impending relegation battle, and later in the campaign, he helped his team to FA Cup glory.
Andrei Kanchelskis (April 1996)
Remembered as one of the club’s most exciting wingers, Andrei Kanchelskis recorded an explosive month of football, netting a total of four goals, including a brace against Southampton.
He also scored in games against QPR and Coventry City, helping the Blues to vital points, and lighting up Goodison Park with his blistering pace and direct play in the final third.
Kevin Campbell (April 1999)
Kevin Campbell, arguably, deserved the award more than anyone else on this list, having single-handedly saved the Toffees from relegation in 1999-2000.
Starting April off with a hat-trick against West Ham, he notched a brace against Coventry City before scoring the winner against Newcastle United, before adding another to his tally in a 6-0 thrashing of the Hammers.
It was a remarkable scoring streak, becoming one of the most famous purple patches in Premier League history, writing his name into the history books for decades to come.
Andy Johnson (September 2006)
After joining from Crystal Palace in the summer, Andy Johnson took very little time to adapt at Goodison Park, netting a total of five goals against Liverpool, Luton Town, and Wigan Athletic.
He quickly became one of the hottest strikers in England, with fans loving his brace in the Merseyside derby, and ultimately, jumping ahead of the queue for the Player of the Month award at that time.
Phil Jagielka (February 2009)
A rare player on this list, centre-back Phil Jagielka was praised for his defensive abilities on Merseyside, having conceded just a single goal in the month of February back in 2009.
His work rate, communication, and no-nonsense defending helped the Toffees to key wins over West Brom, Bolton Wanderers, and Newcastle, as well as a goalless draw with their direct rivals.
Jagielka was named in the PFA Team of the Season for 2009-2010, and following his performances earlier in the campaign, it was really no surprise to see his inclusion.
Nikica Jelavić (April 2012)
After joining from Rangers for £5.5million, fans quickly saw his signing as a bargain deal after watching him score braces against Sunderland and Man United, as well as goals against Norwich City and Fulham.
Jelavic was absolutely ruthless in front of goal, linking up with Steven Pienaar and Marouane Fellaini, and the latter is the next name to feature on this list.
Marouane Fellaini (November 2012)
Despite a rollercoaster of a career on Merseyside, Fellaini could always be depended on to create havoc in the opposition’s penalty area, and he very much proved that in November 2012.
The Belgian used his strength and aerial ability to score in three separate matches against Sunderland, Reading, and Arsenal, becoming the Toffees’ most dangerous attacking outlet at the time.
Romelu Lukaku (March 2017)
Going on to become one of the most famous strikers in worldwide football, Romelu Lukaku used Everton as a stepping stone after making a name for himself at the Hawthorns.
He finished March with five goals to his name in four matches, netting against Middlesbrough, Crystal Palace, and Sunderland, eventually ending the campaign on 25 Premier League goals.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (September 2020)
While Dominic Calvert-Lewin left Merseyside as a rather controversial figure, often spending lengthy spells on the sidelines, his September performances in 2020 have gone down in history.
After scoring five goals in three games, coming against Tottenham, Brighton, and West Brom, he helped Carlo Ancelotti‘s side to the top of the Premier League table, though that form would not last.
