Jack Grealish reacts to Kyle Walker’s message amid Man City ‘pay cut’ claim

Kyle Walker gained the attention of Man City and AC Milan teammates on social media as the full-back’s future in Italy remains uncertain.

The 34-year-old is currently on loan in Serie A until the end of the season, having joined AC Milan during the winter transfer window after falling down Pep Guardiola‘s pecking order.

He has started 12 of his 14 appearances since making the move from the Etihad Stadium, but despite his performances, it remains unclear what the veteran’s future holds.

Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that Walker is likely to take a pay cut at Man City after Italian newspaper Gazzetta (14 April) reported he is unlikely to stay in Italy beyond the summer.

Due to some of his performances in the first half of the 2024/25 season, he became somewhat of a controversial figure, with some fans getting frustrated at his inclusion in starting lineups.

However, after six months away from the Etihad, he could return for a fresh start and is clearly still in contact with the City squad members.

Taking to Instagram (6 May), Walker wrote: “Great character shown again to get three points. Brilliant support as always,” signed off with red and black emojis.

Jack Grealish was joined by AC Milan duo Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham in liking the post, as well as Jordan Henderson and Joe Hart.

Pep Guardiola needs experienced stars as squad overhaul expected this summer

Football Insider verdict

Guardiola could certainly use some experienced faces to help him rebuild the City squad, such as Ilkay Gundogan, Ruben Dias, and Walker, if he does not stay in Italy this summer.

Ederson, Grealish, Mateo Kovacic, and Bernardo Silva have all been linked with Man City exits at the end of the season, following Kevin De Bruyne through the exit doors.

That could be an awful lot of experience to lose all at once, with a multitude of youngsters likely to take their places in the squad alongside Phil Foden, James McAtee, and Oscar Bobb.

New additions of Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, and Abdukodir Khusanov have certainly made a difference to the squad since the winter, but Guardiola is still dissatisfied with his team’s performances.

Rodri returning from injury will be one of the biggest boosts ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, even if several signings are made, and supporters are excited to see the Spaniard back on the pitch again.
