Jack Grealish, Savinho react to Ederson amid ‘shock’ Man City replacement news
Ederson’s latest update gained the attention of Jack Grealish and Savinho as rumours continue to circulate over his Man City future.
Many supporters were concerned that the Man City goalkeeper’s season was over after sustaining a groin injury during the 5-2 win over Crystal Palace in April, with Stefan Ortega stepping in for him.
However, the 31-year-old has since returned from the treatment room to add two more clean sheets to his record against Wolves and Southampton, potentially ending his final season at the Etihad Stadium on a high note.
Mick Brown told Football Insider that, with the Brazilian linked with a big-money move to Saudi Arabia this summer, Man City are considering a “shock” move for PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The 26-year-old has been instrumental in the Ligue 1 champions’ route to the Champions League final, pulling out a Man of the Match performance in the semi-final, and could face Arsenal regularly.
Gianluigi Donnarumma to replace Ederson at Man City
Taking to Instagram (15 May), Ederson shared images from City’s latest training session, simply captioned with sun and thumbs-up emojis, gaining the attention of several Premier League stars.
Manuel Akanji, pictured in the second image, replied with a shaking hands emoji, while Jack Grealish, Savinho, Josko Gvardiol, Tottenham‘s Richarlison, and West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta liked the post.
Pep Guardiola to replace multiple big-name stars at the Etihad this summer
Football Insider verdict
Ederson is unlikely to be the only player to end his long-time stay at the Etihad Stadium this season, with Kevin De Bruyne being linked with a shock Liverpool move once the summer transfer window opens.
Many supporters believe that the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Bernardo Silva, and John Stones are beyond their years, especially with so many big-name stars spending too much time sidelines this term.
Player | Club | Appearances | Goals conceded | Clean sheets |
Ederson | Man City | 367 | 304 | 166 |
Gianluigi Donnarumma | PSG | 152 | 151 | 50 |
Performances on the pitch would tend to agree, with City dropping out of the Champions League and EFL Cup at early stages, though a top-five finish is now almost guaranteed for Pep Guardiola‘s team.
It was not always a certainty that the Citizens would qualify for the Champions League, only picking up form since late February, but European football will help entice new and exciting talents to the club.
If several high-profile exits are to emerge in Manchester, it will be extremely important to replace them ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, with fans now expecting titles from Man City.
