Jack Grealish sends message to Ederson as Man City double-exit looms

Jack Grealish has sent a new message to Man City teammate Ederson as they both face uncertainty around their futures at the club this summer.

Grealish made just seven Premier League starts last term, and with a move away beckoning, Football Insider reported in June that Everton and Newcastle United are leading the race for the Man City winger’s services.

The Citizens’ chiefs are considering loaning Grealish out due to his high wages, despite him costing the club a whopping £100million [Sky Sports] when he joined from Aston Villa in 2021.

Newcastle are planning to accelerate their pursuit of Grealish soon, as revealed by Football Insider on 9 July, and he could be joined out of the Etihad Stadium exit door by another high-profile first-team star.

Former scout Mick Brown told Football Insider back in December that Man City will listen to “big” offers for Ederson this summer, and the Brazilian goalkeeper is believed to be open to leaving the Citizens amid interest from Galatasaray, as exclusively revealed to Football Insider by former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson.

Ederson posts off-season update away from Man City

City’s favoured first-team players returned to training on Monday, 28 July [Man City], but Grealish started pre-season alone [The Mail] last week as he nears a move away.

Ederson is still in Pep Guardiola’s plans for now, and he took to Instagram on Monday to mark the end of his summer break by posting numerous pictures of him with friends and family during his time away from the club.

His update was reacted to by Grealish, who simply left a thumbs-up emoji in the replies, while teammate Savinho did the same and City legend Fernandinho said: “Amigos que amamos e seguimos juntos!” which translates to: “Friends we love and follow together!”

Football Insider verdict

It seems like an almost foregone conclusion that Grealish will be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium this summer, and his exit woes have been compounded by the arrival of Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki at Man City, who is comfortable playing on either wing and at number 10.

His time under Guardiola has been one of both ups and downs over the years, but his last season certainly included more of the latter as he failed to make any sort of impact in either the Premier League or Champions League while Man City suffered a surprising downfall compared to their previous campaigns.

Grealish’s Man City career stats

The 29-year-old certainly still has a lot to offer, though, and Football Insider have also revealed that Grealish is “excited” by the prospect of playing for the Toffees as he enters what should be his prime as a player, and he would surely be a good fit in David Moyes’ squad next season.

As for Ederson, his exit seems a lot less likely than Grealish’s does due to his status as City’s long-time number one, but he is set to see competition for his starting spot arrive soon as the Citizens close in on a move to sign James Trafford from Burnley, so it is certainly not impossible that he departs the Etihad Stadium in the next month.
