Jack Grealish set for extended spell out of Man City XI amid ‘massive’ claim – pundit
Noel Whelan has claimed Jack Grealish may be set for an extended spell on the Man City bench.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 26-year-old must produce “every game” in order to stay in Pep Guardiola’s side.
Grealish started last week’s season opener against West Ham but dropped to the bench for Saturday’s (13 August) 4-0 win over Bournemouth.
The former Aston Villa star scored just three league goals in 26 outings last term and is yet to register a goal or assist in the new campaign.
Grealish’s best league return came during the 2019-20 season when he scored eight goals in 36 games for the Midlands giants.
Whelan insisted Foden’s goal against Bournemouth will pile “massive pressure” on the £100million signing.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “There’s a formidable group of players he’ll have to get back past now.
“The fact that Foden has gotten off the mark straight away will put massive pressure on Grealish.
“But when you play for Man City, it’s about rotation – but it’s all about taking your chance when it comes.
“Grealish would have known he wasn’t going to play every week when he came in, but he’s got to be producing every single game in order to stay in the side.

“Whether it’s a goal, an assist, a brilliant performance – he’s got people breathing down his neck who can bring all of those things.
“Foden’s in the driving seat now – he’s produced the performance that could well keep Grealish on the bench.”
