Jack Grealish shares injury update in new message after devastating Man City blow

Jack Grealish took to social media to share a far-from-upbeat update after sustaining an injury in Man City’s 3-2 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday (February 11).

The 29-year-old was forced off in the 30th minute as Man City suffered a potentially devastating Champions League first-leg home loss against the Spanish giants.

Grealish was crouched down in his own half before receiving treatment and ultimately being replaced by fellow England international Phil Foden.

The extent of the injury remains unclear, but Grealish did appear to be holding his groin while talking to manager Pep Guardiola on the sideline.

Grealish played an integral role in City’s first goal, sending an excellent ball into the area from which was chested down by Josko Gvardiol into the path of Erling Haaland, who unsurprisingly scored.

Alan Shearer, who was on the commentary team with Amazon Prime, was left furious, blaming VAR for Grealish’s injury after it took four minutes for them to determine whether the goal should stand or not.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex- PGMOL chief and FIFA official Keith Hackett believes Man City will be in contact with UEFA regarding the issue.

Grealish has struggled for City so far this season, starting 13 of his 24 games across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing five assists in his 1228 minutes of action.

Football Insider revealed (December 24) that Man City are looking to sell Grealish in the summer transfer window due to his lacklustre performances this season.

The winger took to Instagram to share an update with the fans regarding his fitness, saying: “Hopefully the injury isn’t too bad, and thank you for the support last night. Still all to play for next week.”

Goals from Kylian Mbappe, Brahim Diaz, and Jude Bellingham secured a last-gasp win for the current European champions, giving them a serious advantage going into the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu in a week’s time (February 19).

Guardiola’s side have a Premier League clash with Newcastle to contend with between now and then, with the two sides facing off on Saturday (February 15).
