Jack Harrison reacts to Ashley Young’s message after his Ipswich debut

Everton allowed both Ashley Young and Jack Harrison to leave this summer but a reunion is on the cards for the latter.

David Moyes has swept a broom through his Toffees squad this summer with 10 first-teamers let go, and Young became one of five players released at the end of their contracts with just three players kept on.

Everton also sent four of last season’s five loanees back to their parent clubs with only Carlos Alcaraz signed from Flamengo permanently in a £15million deal, and that has left Harrison’s career in limbo.

Harrison returned to newly-promoted Leeds United this summer after two consecutive seasons on loan at Goodison Park, and faces a battle to either win back favour at Elland Road or force another move away.

Ashley Young sends new Ipswich message after Everton exit

Harrison’s return to West Yorkshire hasn’t been met with much fanfare and he hugely underwhelmed in their first pre-season friendly against Manchester United, but a return to Everton could still be possible.

Young quickly shut the door on any uncertainty and made clear that he wanted to aim high after entering the free agents’ market, but the 40-year-old was unable to negotiate a return to his former club Watford.

After signing a one-year deal with recently-relegated Ipswich Town on 23 July, Young made his Tractor Boys debut in a pre-season friendly against Charlton on Tuesday, and posted on Instagram at full-time.

In a message liked by his former Everton team-mate Harrison, Young said: “First 30 minutes of the season”.

Everton will open door for Harrison return after transfer impasse

Football Insider Verdict

Adam Aznou may have become Everton’s fourth permanent signing of the summer on 29 July, but David Moyes has publicly expressed his frustration that their transfer business has been slower than expected.

Football Insider revealed on 14 July that having “burned his bridges” at Leeds, Harrison could yet return to Everton this summer, and Moyes could sanction such a move if those frustrations continue to grow.

Leeds missing out on Feyenoord’s Igor Paixao does give Harrison a lifeline, but after he made a home at Everton and may still have a place in Moyes’ threadbare squad, it could be third time lucky for Harrison to seal a permanent move.
