Jacob Murphy, Tino Livramento react to Sven Botman after Newcastle injury update

Sven Botman caught the attention of his Newcastle United teammates as the defender potentially faces another spell on the sidelines.

The Dutchman has seriously struggled with injuries at St James’ Park, having played just 76 games since arriving from Lille on a £32million deal three summers ago [BBC Sport].

His absence from the squad last season left Fabian Schar and Dan Burn as the trusted centre-back partnership, with Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall impressing on opposite flanks.

While the Magpies were still able to achieve Champions League qualification last term, Newcastle now face the risk of losing Alexander Isak to Liverpool on a British record transfer in the coming weeks.

The squad continues to prepare for the new season without their star striker, and the Magpies may have to continue without one of their defenders after Eddie Howe admitted he suffered a tight strain.

Sven Botman injury concerns emerge

Taking to Instagram (28 July), Botman wrote: “Solid few days in Singapore! Grateful for all the energy and support from the fans! Soon, South Korea,” with images from the pre-season tour so far.

Jacob Murphy replied with two black love hearts, while teammates Tino Livramento and Joelinton were joined by Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber in liking the post.

Newcastle United suffer further setbacks this summer

Football Insider verdict

The Magpies have already missed out on Joao Pedro, Jarell Quansah, and Hugo Ekitike, and could now lose out on signing Benjamin Sesko due to Chelsea’s plans in the summer transfer market.

On top of that, losing Isak would be an incredible blow to Newcastle’s chances of developing on the pitch, with only Anthony Elanga signed from Nottingham Forest on a £55m deal so far [BBC Sport].

Howe helped the club to break its 70-year trophy drought when beating the Reds to the Carabao Cup at Wembley Stadium last season, also securing a top-five finish with a late resurgence.

Football Insider understands that Howe is being partly blamed by Newcastle for the disastrous summer transfer window, and it remains to be seen how the club will overcome these issues.

With the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Livramento, Anthony Gordon, Joelinton, and Elanga, the club should be able to move forward next season, but only if suitable signings are found.

Newcastle continue to miss out on key transfers as other clubs swoop in, the latest coming in the form of goalkeeper James Trafford, and they cannot continue making those same mistakes now.
