Jacob Ramsey and Ollie Watkins react to major Aston Villa contract announcement

Jacob Ramsey and Ollie Watkins have responded after Aston Villa delivered a significant new contract update.

A campaign that had promised so much with excellent runs in both the FA Cup and Champions League ended in agonising style for Unai Emery‘s side.

The final day of the Premier League season saw Aston Villa controversially beaten by Man United at Old Trafford, a result which cost the club Champions League qualification.

As a result, the club have missed out on a major financial windfall that would have helped them massively in this summer’s transfer window.

Even so, they have now been able to complete one welcome piece of business early on in the summer, with a new contract for captain Tyrone Mings.

Jacob Ramsey and Ollie Watkins responds to Tyrone Mings update

Following the end of the 2024/25 season, Mings had just a year remaining on his previous contract at Villa Park.

On Wednesday (4 June) though, Aston Villa announced that the centre-back has put pen to paper on a new contract with the club.

Although the length of the deal has not officially been revealed, there have been suggestions his contract will now run until the end of the 2026/27 season.

That will see Mings combine his Aston Villa duties with his role as a member of the EURO 2028 board of directors, with the competition due to be held in the United Kingdom.

After the club posted confirmation of that new contract for the centre-back on their Instagram page, Ramsey and Watkins were among those to back their teammate by liking that post.

Football Insider Verdict

The new that Mings has extended his contract at Villa Park is undoubtedly a positive those connected with the club.

His leadership and ability mean he is still a valuable asset for Emery’s side, although he is not the only one they will want to stay.

There have been suggestions that Aston Villa are vulnerable to losing Ramsey amid interest from Tottenham after missing out on Champions League qualification.

Meanwhile, Arsenal saw a bid rejected for Watkins in January, but are still in need of a new centre-forward this summer.

As a result, there are still likely to be some battles to come for Emery and co. in the market, as they attempt to keep hold of their key players.
