Jacob Ramsey reacts to Amadou Onana’s update amid potential Aston Villa exit

Jacob Ramsey has reacted to a new update from Amadou Onana as rumours around his potential Aston Villa departure continue to arise this summer.

Ramsey impressed for Villa again last season, with four goals and seven assists in 45 games in all competitions despite suffering a hamstring injury that kept him out for over a month just before the turn of the year.

The 24-year-old versatile midfielder could be leaving his boyhood club this summer, though, with football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley recently suggesting to Football Insider that Villa will be forced to cash in on at least one or two players soon as they try to avoid further sanctions from UEFA after their recent fine.

Former club scout Mick Brown previously told Football Insider that Villa will accept big offers for Ramsey as Unai Emery is uncertain about where he features in his plans for the future.

Brown has also recently revealed that Tottenham are plotting a move to sign Ramsey after making contact with his agent about a potential deal, with the Aston Villa star open to a move to North London.

Despite Spurs’ interest, Ramsey is yet to make the move away from the Midlands giants, and Football Insider recently revealed that Villa are “desperate” to keep hold of both him and Morgan Rogers.

He returned to training last week [Aston Villa], but was not joined by midfield partner Onana, who represented Belgium last month and so has not been expected back at their Bodymoor Heath facility until this week [Birmingham Mail].

Onana took to Instagram on Sunday (13 July) to share a new update of what he had been doing in his time off alongside the caption: “2/2,” after his last post had been captioned: “1/2” [Instagram].

Ramsey moved to leave a like on his teammate’s new post, while the likes of former Villa loanees Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio, fellow exit-linked Villan Lucas Digne, Ibrahima Konate and Ezri Konsa all followed suit.

Aston Villa should sell Ramsey if he wants to leave

Football Insider verdict

The lure of Champions League football is likely what attracts him to Spurs, but even before their interest was reported, Football Insider exclusively revealed in May that Ramsey is “unhappy” at Villa and would be open to a move for more regular starts.

With his apparent unhappiness in mind, it seems like a pretty obvious move for the club to look to sell him this summer, especially given their precarious financial position and the fact he is an asset who will command a sizeable fee.

Ramsey’s Villa career stats

Ramsey did impress last term, but was arguably more impactful in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons respectively, and he managed to start only 19 league games amid strong competition for places from both Rashford and Asensio.

While Villa would like to keep him, he seems like the most realistic high-profile sale that they would be willing to sanction this summer, especially instead of teammate Rogers, who has been heavily linked to Chelsea.
