Jadon Sancho: Golden Boot winner digs at Man United star after confirmed news
Man United winger Jadon Sancho has “not delivered” this season and has been rightly left out of the England squad, according to Kevin Phillips.
The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, recognised that the 21-year-old’s form has improved but insisted other players are more deserving of a chance under Gareth Southgate.
On Thursday (17 March), England confirmed their squad for upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Cote d’Ivoire.
United attackers Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford were not named on the 25-man list despite both being part of England’s Euro 2020 squad.
Phillips urged Sancho “to knuckle down” over the international break.
“Look, his form has picked up over the last few months but I think it was the right decision to leave him out,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“His form has been better but he’s not exactly pulling up trees. When you take into account the ability he’s got and the money he joined Man United for, he’s not delivered.
“The consistency has not been there. He has only shown what he can do in glimpses for England as well. For me, there’s far more consistent players out there who deserve their opportunity right now.
“I’m not surprised he’s been left out. It is up to him to knuckle down over the international break and start putting in performances when we resume.”

Sancho endured a difficult start to his career at Old Trafford but his form has significantly improved this calendar year.
He has contributed two goals and three assists in his last six Premier League appearances.
