Jadon Sancho ‘in danger’ at Man United after latest – pundit

Jadon Sancho is “in danger” of missing this winter’s World Cup if he cannot “hit the ground running” under new Man United boss Erik ten Hag.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old’s Old Trafford switch is “looking like a strange move”.

23-cap midfield star Sancho was omitted from Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad after a dismal first campaign in the Premier League.

The midfield star completed a reported £73million move from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021.

He notched just five goals and three assists in 38 appearances during the 2021-22 season.

Speaking to club media (15 May), Sancho revealed he is “looking forward” to a fresh start under Ten Hag after experiencing a “difficult” first season.

Whelan claimed the Dutchman needs to implement a system better suited to the Englishman’s talents.

“Reflecting on this season, it’s not been great for Sancho or Man United,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“That’s the reason why he’s not in the England set-up. People have been playing more regularly and putting in better performances.

“It took him a long time to finally move to Man United – but it’s not been the easiest of transitions.

“Hopefully under Ten Hag he can get more minutes and play in a system that suits him better.

“We hardly saw anything in the way of consistency last season. It’s looking like a strange move at this point.

“It’s an area where England are saturated with talent. He’s going to have to hit the ground running at the start of next season.

“Otherwise, he’s in danger of missing out on the World Cup.”
