Jagielka posts message to fans after Everton victory v Leicester

By Dominic Toner

Everton defender Phil Jagielka hailed the home support following the club’s victory over Leicester in the Premier League.

The Toffees managed to beat the Foxes 4-2 at Goodison Park in an enthralling encounter and it stretched their winning run to seven consecutive home victories in the league.

Everton youngster Tom Davies opened the scoring in the 1st minute, but Islam Slimani and Marc Albrighton responded with goals for the visitors inside the opening 10 minutes.

The Merseyside club then responded with goals from Romelu Lukaku and Phil Jagielka to make it 3-2 after a dramatic first-half.

Lukaku then scored his 23rd league goal in the season to secure the three points and help them consolidate their seventh-place standing.

Jagielka expressed his delight after Everton’s win on Sunday and he stretched his recent goal scoring form to two goals from his last two games.

“What a game, big three points. Great atmosphere in the stadium, thanks for the support. Delighted to score again,” Jagielka wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Everton managed to get the better of a much-changed Leicester side as they have one eye on their Champions League quarter-final clash with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

Ronald Koeman’s side moved level on points with sixth-placed Arsenal as a result, but the Gunners do have three games in hand.

The Toffees should book European football for next season if they finish in seventh and it’s been a fairly successful first campaign for Koeman.

In other Everton news, Koeman delivered his verdict on the club’s January signing.
