Jake O’Brien: Medical passed, Everton agree four-year deal
Everton have moved one step closer to signing Jake O’Brien after he passed a medical at the club, sources have told Football Insider.
The central defender has agreed a four-year deal with an option of a further 12 months, with the signing expected to be announced by the Merseysiders soon.
Football Insider revealed that Everton will pay Lyon £20million to complete the signing as Sean Dyche looks to bolster his defensive options.
The 23-year-old joined the French outfit from Crystal Palace last summer and was a regular in the team.
O’Brien played 27 times for Lyon in Ligue 1 as he played a key role in their defence while scoring four goals.
Lyon will now cash in on him as Everton bring the Republic Of Ireland international to Goodison Park.
Everton will make transfer decisions on other defenders following Jake O’Brien’s arrival
The signing of O’Brien is not expected to have any impact on the status of Jarrad Branthwaite, despite the interest in him.
The Merseyside club are confident of keeping Branthwaite for next season following the sales of Ben Godfrey and Amadou Onana.
O’Brien’s arrival could decrease the game time available to the 31-year-old, who could be deemed surplus to requirements.

At the other end of the pitch, Everton are continuing to pursue Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto.
However, Football Insider revealed that the Italian is expected to start the season at Elland Road.
