Jake O’Brien to undergo Everton medical tomorrow – sources

Jake O’Brien is booked to undergo a medical at Everton on Monday, sources have told Football Insider.

Lyon have accepted a £20 million bid for the 23-year-old Republic of Ireland international from the Premier League club.

He has agreed terms and will put the finishing touches to the move in the next 24 hours.

The centre-back joined the Ligue 1 club from Crystal Palace last year and went on to make 27 appearances in the French top flight, scoring four goals.

Since then, the 6ft 6in defender has made his international debut, featuring twice for the Republic of Ireland in their June friendlies.

O’Brien will be Everton’s third permanent signing after Iliman Ndaiye and Tim Iroegbunam and they will likely focus on loans for the rest of the window.

Football Insider revealed (July 23) that the Merseyside club are also working on bringing in multiple loan deals before the August 31st transfer deadline.

Everton set to add Jake O’Brien to bolster defence

Republic of Ireland international O’Brien signed with Premier League side Crystal Palace in 2021 but did not make any appearances for the club.

Instead, he was loaned out to Swindon Town and Belgian club RWD Molenbeek before securing a permanent move to Lyon last summer.

O’Brien has made 35 appearances in all competitions for the French club as they came back from a difficult start to the season to finish 6th.
