Jamal Lowe responds as emotional Sheffield Wednesday exit confirmed
Sheffield Wednesday are continuing to endure frequent player exits amid owner Dejphon Chansiri’s consistent failure to pay staff and player wages on time.
The Owls have witnessed one of last season’s star men, Josh Windass, join Wrexham, while striker Michael Smith signed for Championship rivals Preston.
Danny Rohl’s men appear set for a second-tier relegation battle, as the Sheffield Wednesday squad continues to thin, with their opening league game just under two weeks away.
Meanwhile, the North Stand at Hillsborough could be shut at the start of next season due to safety concerns, adding to supporters’ frustrations.

Lowe responds as Callum Paterson pens emotional Sheffield Wednesday exit message
Amid the South Yorkshire club’s financial struggles, Callum Paterson attracted interest from MK Dons and Oxford United.
The versatile striker’s contract at Hillsborough had expired, although he was still training with Rohl’s men in pre-season.
However, the 30-year-old has joined League Two side MK Dons and has penned an emotional exit message to Sheffield Wednesday supporters.
Paterson took to Instagram on Monday, 28 July, as he wrote: “Sadly, my time at SWFC has come to an end.
“I’ve loved every second of playing for this massive club and made so many memories that I’ll never forget, especially in the promotion season.
“186 times I was privileged enough to wear the badge, and it was always an honour to pull on that shirt whenever I got the opportunity.
“I would just like to thank all of the fans for making me feel at home in Sheffield for the last five seasons. Thank you to all of the backroom staff, the physios, the coaching staff, and everyone else in between.
“You have all been amazing with me, and I’ll forever appreciate it. I’ve made some amazing friends for life at the club and in the city itself. Sheffield will always hold a special part in my life, with my daughter being born here.
“I wish everyone at SWFC all the best for the upcoming season and for the future beyond that. Excited to start a new chapter.
“WAWAW Pato.”
Paterson’s former Sheffield Wednesday teammate Jamal Lowe commented: “My brother!” alongside a crying face emoji.
Paterson can help fire MK Dons to promotion
Football Insider verdict
Sheffield Wednesday will boast a significantly weaker attack next season, thanks to the departures of Windass, Smith, and Paterson.
Callum Paterson stats | Championship 2024/25 |
Appearances | 27 |
Goals | 6 |
Assists | 2 |
The MK Dons new boy notched six goals and two assists in the Championship last season, proving that he can still produce the goods in the second tier.
Therefore, he should be able to thrive in League Two and fire Paul Warne’s men to promotion back to League One for the first time since they suffered relegation from the third tier in 2023.
The presence of former Derby County boss Warne in the MK Dons dugout epitomises the Buckinghamshire club’s lofty ambitions, and Paterson should become a regular on their fourth-tier scoresheet.
Warne’s men have also signed the likes of ex-Bolton Wanderers hotshot Aaron Collins, who scored 19 goals and produced five assists in 55 appearances for the Greater Manchester outfit last term.
Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday’s loss is MK Dons’ gain when it comes to Paterson.
