James Maddison and Jordan Henderson react to Callum Wilson’s goodbye message

Callum Wilson’s social media message since leaving Newcastle United has created a reaction from England internationals and former team mates.

Wilson is a free agent after leaving Newcastle following the expiry of his contract at the club at the end of last month.

The 33-year-old spent five seasons at St James’ Park, but the form of Alexander Isak has seen his minutes limited on Tyneside.

Now looking for a new club, it has been exclusively revealed by Football Insider that plenty of Premier League and Championship sides want to sign the striker this summer.

Wilson ends ‘amazing experience’

Leeds United and Newcastle’s fiercest rivals Sunderland have both been backed to complete the signing of Wilson, as both look to strengthen their squads ahead of their Premier League returns.

The striker has been spending time at the Club World Cup over the off season and took to Instagram to thank the DAZN team for allowing him to work with them on their coverage, which was liked by James Maddison and Jordan Henderson among his former Newcastle team mates.

Wilson was pictured next to former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel and former Spurs and Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale.

Promoted club’s should look at Wilson’s scoring pedigree

Football Insider Verdict

Wilson has scored nearly 100 Premier League goals and has a wealth of experience at the top level.

Injury problems have limited his output in recent seasons and hamstring issues have been a common theme in his career.

The 33-year-old could therefore be seen as gamble, but when fit Wilson knows where the goal is and he can stretch defences with his runs in-behind.

Leeds and Sunderland both need goal scorers next season if they want to stand a chance of surviving in the top flight.

Daniel Farke has so far prioritised defensive additions and strengthening his back four and the German know needs to focus on adding goal scorers.

Sunderland have added more threat into their attack with the signings of Enzo Le Fee and Simon Adingra, but face the same dilemma of needing to acquire a proven number nine.

Other club’s are sure to be eyeing up Wilson, and the striker doesn’t look to be short of options.
