James Maddison and Micky van de Ven react to Pedro Porro’s message at Tottenham

Pedro Porro gained reactions from teammates James Maddison and Micky van de Ven after Tottenham were in pre-season action.

Thomas Frank got a first sight of his squad against Reading on Saturday, 19 July, with goals from Will Lankshear and Luka Vuskovic enough to seal a 2-0 win against the League One outfit.

New boy Mohammed Kudus was handed his debut following his £55million move from West Ham [BBC Sport], even notching his first assist in Spurs colours.

Porro, who had been away with Spain on international duty last month, was his usual, creative self against Reading, but the right-back was also on the end of quite a nasty challenge from Brighton loanee Mark O’Mahony.

He walked away from the challenge and played the rest of the half, being substituted at half-time as was planned by the manager, and the player has issued an update on social media.

Taking to Instagram (19 July), Porro wrote: “Good to be back,” with smile and wave emojis, gaining likes from Maddison, Van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, Dominic Solanke, and Pape Sarr.

The full-back played 45 minutes of Spurs’ friendly clash with Reading before being replaced by Djed Spence at the half-time break, with all players getting minutes on the pitch.

Thomas Frank kickstarts life in North London

Football Insider verdict

Frank has walked into the relatively unknown this summer when taking over from Ange Postecoglou, having never really had huge funds available to him at the Gtech Community Stadium.

With Kudus already signed, several other big names have emerged as potential targets in North London, albeit Tottenham’s move for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White has turned into a saga.

Only a handful of players have sealed exits away from the Lilywhites so far, the majority seeing their contracts expire, but that is unlikely to be the last of the business done by the club.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Daniel Levy is backing the manager to conduct a major overhaul over the coming weeks, with plenty of deadweight still in the squad.

Cristian Romero, Son Heung-min, Richarlison, and Dejan Kulusevski are all big names being linked with moves away, though it remains to be seen what the new manager’s plans are for them.

Supporters are already excited for the season ahead, with many hoping for the club to build on the Europa League title, but it will be a huge change after the sacking of Postecoglou.
