James Maddison, Eric Dier respond to ‘need’ message from Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon

Tottenham’s James Maddison and Bayern Munich ace Eric Dier have responded to a message from Fulham star Ryan Sessegnon on social media.

Following an underwhelming five-year spell in North London with Spurs, the 24-year-old re-joined his boyhood club in the summer on a free transfer.

Tottenham target Marco Silva was cautious with his use of Sessegnon initially, given the left-back has featured irregularly in recent seasons.

What’s more, Liverpool target Antonee Robinson began the season in imperious form, registering 10 assists for the Whites.

However, Sessegnon’s versatility has allowed Silva to use the defender in various positions, and his stellar attacking intuition led to him being in the right place to score the match winner in Fulham’s 2-1 victory against Southampton on Saturday (26 April).

Following the last-gasp winner that keeps Fulham in the hunt for European football, Sessegnon posted several images from the match on Instagram, captioned: “We needed that.”

Tottenham’s Maddison commented a clapping hand emoji on the post, whilst Bayern’s Dier commented: “Kouassiiiii”, in reference to the defender’s full name, Kouassi Ryan Sessegnon.

Just under a decade ago, Sessegnon was beginning to appear on scouting reports around Europe, having been inducted into Fulham’s first team as a 15-year-old.

As a 16-year-old, the full-back made his debut for the Whites and a season later was being regularly used in the Championship.

Man United and Liverpool were both interested in signing Sessegnon, but the then-teenager signed professional terms with Fulham.

However, after joining Tottenham in 2019, things slowed down for the England U21 international as he struggled to break into Jose Mourinho’s side.

A loan to Hoffenheim helped, but having returned to North London he suffered repeated injury set backs, it seemed that Sessegnon would never fulfil the potential that had so many viewing him as a future England star.

Back at Fulham after half a decade away, the ex-Spurs man is finding his feet again and whilst it’s still early days, three goals and two assists in his last five appearances has been enough for the Cottagers’ fans to get excited again.
