James Maddison reacts as another crushing Tottenham injury blow confirmed
James Maddison was the first Tottenham star to react as Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered a crushing injury blow in North London.
The Lilywhites are just seven days away from facing Ruben Amorim’s Man United in the Europa League final in Bilbao, having comfortably bypassed Bodo/Glimt in the previous round.
It has been an incredibly difficult campaign for Spurs, with the team currently sitting 17th in the Premier League table, and Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham likely hangs on winning the European trophy.
The manager has already been dealt a heavy blow by the long-term injury to Maddison, who joins Lucas Bergvall in the treatment room, and the England international has now passed on his condolences to Dejan Kulusevski.

Tottenham’s injury curse continues ahead of Europa League final
Taking to Instagram (14 May), the official club account wrote: “We can confirm that Dejan Kulusevski suffered an injury to his right patella in our Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace last weekend.
“Following further specialist consultation, the midfielder has undergone surgery today and will commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff immediately.
“We’re all with you, Deki,” signed off with a white heart emoji, with Maddison the first of his teammates to like the post as a show of support for the injured star.
Ange Postecoglou hit with incredibly unlucky news at Tottenham
Football Insider verdict
Postecoglou has spent much of the 2024/25 campaign without many of his biggest stars, with Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario, and Son Heung-min all being sidelined during the season.
However, that is no excuse for Spurs’ desperate decline in form in the Premier League, losing 20 of their 36 matches so far, but still managing to reach a European final against the Red Devils.
Manager | Games | Won | Drawn | Lost | Win % |
Ange Postecoglou | 57 | 25 | 8 | 24 | 43.9 |
Amorim has suffered a similar campaign at Man United, with the manager under considerable pressure to turn his fortunes around at Old Trafford, and silverware would certainly help with that.
The former Sporting CP figure will be licking his lips at the news emerging from North London, as Postecoglou is now without three key midfielders for the clash, but it is impossible to predict the outcome.
Losing Kulusevski, who has notched 10 goals and 11 assists in all competitions this season, could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back, however, and only time will tell how Spurs cope without him.
