James Maddison reacts to Cristian Romero’s message after ‘Tottenham exit’ news
James Maddison was among players to respond to Cristian Romero’s heartfelt message on social media.
Romero appears to be still relishing Argentina’s recent victory over Brazil in a 4-1 victory on 26 March, which saw goals from Julian Alvarez, Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernandez and Giuliano Simeone.
Despite the win, Romero was at fault for Brazil’s only goal as Wolves’ Matheus Cunha punished him for hesitating on the ball.
Several Argentina players reacted after the game, including Emi Martinez, who shared a passionate message. However, Romero seems to be continuing to reflect on the triumph on social media.
Real Madrid keen on Cristian Romero ahead of potential summer transfer
Romero shared a video of himself singing Argentina’s national anthem on Instagram, captioning it: “How nice to share it with you, Val.”
His post drew reactions from several players, including Aston Villa’s Martinez, Alvarez, and Spurs teammate Maddison.
The Argentine defender has struggled with injuries this season, making just 17 appearances for Tottenham. However, the club may need to prepare for life without him on a more permanent basis.
Mick Brown, the former chief scout for Manchester United and Blackburn, exclusively told Football Insider that Romero is on Real Madrid’s shortlist of defensive targets for the summer window.
While some Tottenham fans have grown frustrated with Romero and his fitness struggles, losing him could leave a major hole in their already fragile backline.
Football Insider previously revealed that Tottenham would demand a substantial fee for Romero, should Madrid formalise their interest.

James Maddison and Ange Postecoglou tensions grow amid Spurs struggles
While Maddison continues to back Romero publicly, his own season has been far from smooth.
There have been suggestions that Maddison and Ange Postecoglou have fallen out in recent weeks with the midfielder starting just three of his last 10 Premier League games.
Maddison has also faced criticism, though more for his performances on-the-field rather than his injury issues. With Postecoglou under increasing pressure, there are claims Maddison is ‘waiting’ for a managerial change, as Spurs endure a frustrating campaign.
If the Englishman and Romero hope to win back full fan support, both will need to step up their performances before the season ends.
