James Maddison reacts to Tottenham’s message to Manor Solomon amid Leeds links

James Maddison has reacted to a new message from Tottenham to Manor Solomon amid rumours that he could return to Leeds this summer.

Solomon left Spurs last summer to join Leeds on a season-long loan, and he won the hearts of Whites fans with consistently impressive performances to help them return to the Premier League as champions of the Championship.

The pacey winger registered 10 goals and 12 assists in 39 league games under Daniel Farke, and Football Insider revealed in May that Leeds are keen to sign Solomon again this summer with a permanent Spurs exit likely.

Former scout Mick Brown has told Football Insider that Burnley are also interested in Solomon after his successful spell at Elland Road, but ex-Whites goalkeeper Paul Robinson has revealed to Football Insider that Leeds are doing “all they can” to get Solomon back this summer.

His future looks set be decided soon, and he has been sent a message by Tottenham amid uncertainty around his next move ahead of the new campaign.

Tottenham send birthday message to Solomon

Solomon has joined Thomas Frank’s squad for pre-season so far, but missed out on some action in their first friendly of the summer against Reading due to a minor injury issue.

His future is clearly unclear as it stands, but Spurs moved to send him a heartfelt message on Instagram on Thursday (24 July) to mark his 26th birthday, saying: “Happy birthday, Manor!”

His Tottenham teammate Maddison reacted to the post with a like, while Solomon himself replied to their message on his own Instagram story, saying: “Another year. Thank you for your wishes. A small bump in the road, I will be ready to go really soon.”

Leeds’ Igor Paixao pursuit could end Solomon interest

Football Insider verdict

Leeds’ step-up to the top-flight is set to be a challenging one, but they look to be doing all they can to try and survive relegation on their return to the Premier League, with Football Insider recently revealing that Farke has £150million to splash on new players this summer.

Their desire to bolster their attacking options has seen reports claim that Leeds are interested in £33m-rated winger Igor Paixao from Feyenoord, who registered 16 goals and 10 assists in 34 Eredivisie appearances off the left-wing last term.

Paixao’s Feyenoord career stats

Paixao is a similar style of player to Solomon and plays in the exact same position, so it certainly seems like the Whites would only sign one of the two this summer as they aim to spend money in numerous different areas.

The Brazilian wide-man looked set to join Marseille rather than Leeds, yet talks between the French side and Feyenoord have now stalled, and the Elland Road outfit are still in the race for his services as it stands [Yorkshire Evening Post].

If the Whites continue to try and land Paixao this summer, then it certainly seems less likely that they will go for Solomon too, so he could well find himself either on the fringes at Spurs or at another club on loan next season.
