James Maddison tipped to join Tottenham on one condition after journalist’s reveal – pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed Tottenham will need to offload players if they want to sign James Maddison from Leicester City.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-West Ham striker suspects the 25-year-old would only join Spurs if he was guaranteed game time.

Journalist Dean Jones told GiveMeSport (20 July) that the Lilywhites have “touched base” with Leicester over a potential deal for the England international.

He said that it would cost Tottenham “a lot of money” to be able to strike a deal with Brendan Rodgers’ side but that it is “not impossible”.

Maddison currently has two years left on his contract at the King Power Stadium.

When asked if he thought the forward was the kind of player Antonio Conte is looking for, McAvennie told Football Insider: “He’s a good player, but how many midfield players do they want.

They’ve already bought a few midfield players.

I’m sure there will be a lot of players at Tottenham that Conte will be wanting to get out now to bring in players like that. Would Maddison want to go there? I don’t know.

Leicester is a good team now, so he’ll be looking to Brendan Rodgers and wondering if he’ll be challenging this year or not, that would maybe be the only reason he’d move.

But Maddison is a good player to go to any club. It would be a good team to get him in because he’s a good player.
