James Milner delivers Liverpool verdict on top four hopes

By Dominic Toner

Liverpool ace James Milner has insisted that his side will have enough to finish in the top four if they take care of business in their own games.

The Reds are aiming to land a spot in the Champions League places and are currently third-placed in the Premier League table.

Meanwhile, fifth-placed Manchester United are chasing them and will move level with Liverpool if they win their games in hand.

Manchester City are also in the race for a top four finish and currently occupy fourth, but will move a point ahead of the Reds if they win their game in hand.

However, Liverpool’s versatile player Milner feels that it’s in their own hands and they should achieve their aims if they focus on themselves.

“The position we are in means it is irrelevant what other teams think and do,” Milner said, as quoted by the club’s official website. “We know that if we do the business in our remaining games, it will be good enough I am sure. It is down to us.

“We don’t want to get side-tracked or have to worry about other results. Hopefully we can take care of business ourselves.”

Jurgen Klopp’s side have had no distraction of European football this season and a top four spot has been a minimum expectation.

The Merseyside club have fallen too far behind Chelsea and Tottenham in the league table, but could still seal a return to Champions League football.

They managed to pick up a 2-1 away victory against Stoke in their last game and now turn their attention to West Brom on Sunday.

Milner has played an important role for Liverpool this season and has been a regular feature at left-back, despite being a midfielder throughout his career.
