James Tarkowski responds to Idrissa Gueye’s Everton announcement

Idrissa Gueye is running out of contract at Everton this summer, and players were quick to react following an announcement recognising his performances this season.

The Toffees are preparing for a hectic summer transfer window, but retaining some of their out-of-contract players remains a key priority, with Gueye at the top of that list.

Everton are keen to offer Gueye a new deal, although his future at the club is currently uncertain as discussions continue behind the scenes.

A number of senior players are already confirmed to be leaving, with the likes of Jack Harrison and Ashley Young announcing their departures from Everton. Whether the midfielder joins that growing list remains to be seen.

Still, after another impressive campaign in blue, players and fans alike showed their support for the Senegal international, with recognition for his consistency and experience throughout the season.

Idrissa Gueye named Everton Player of the Season after standout campaign

Gueye has been a shining light in Everton’s season, picking up both the Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards for his consistent displays in midfield.

The club confirmed the honours via their official Instagram page, with the awards presented by former manager David Moyes.

Plenty of players showed their appreciation, with James Tarkowski, Dwight McNeil and Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana all liking the post.

Despite a turbulent start to the campaign under Sean Dyche, Everton managed to maintain stability after David Moyes’ arrival and Gueye played a crucial role throughout.

The 35-year-old has been a mainstay in defensive midfield, making 40 appearances and featuring in all but one Premier League fixture, while also registering three assists.

Another key player nearing the end of his contract is Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Football Insider revealed Calvert-Lewin looks set to leave Everton when his deal expires next month, with the club already lining up potential replacements.

Injury problems and a lack of consistent form have cooled Everton’s initial desire to offer a new deal. Football Insider reported in January that Moyes would hold talks with Calvert-Lewin before the season’s end regarding an extension.

However, it now appears the 28-year-old is free to explore his options with a new striker likely to arrive this summer.
