James Tavernier having ‘sleepless nights’ before facing Celtic star – McAvennie

Celtic and their forward line will be giving Rangers captain James Tavernier ‘nightmares’ ahead of the first Old Firm derby of the season on Sunday (September 1).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-Celtic striker Frank McAvennie believes Celtic are well-stocked in attack and that Rangers and Tavernier should be particularly scared of 26-year-old Daizen Maeda ahead of the game at Celtic Park.

The current Scottish Champions are already looking like they might run away with the title once more, winning all three of their games so far without conceding a single goal.

It’s been a fairly underwhelming start for Rangers, however, but Philippe Clement’s side will gain confidence from their impressive 6-0 demolishing of Ross County last time out.

James Tavernier and Rangers should be worried about Celtic attack

Celtic have scored an impressive nine goals in their first three Scottish Premier League games of the season with Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, and Kuhn all with two.

Cyriel Dessers currently sits at the top of Rangers’ scoring charts with three goals in three league games, two of which came against Ross County.

“I’ve got to go with Kyogo, Maeda, and probably start with Forrest”, McAvennie told Football Insider.

“Kuhn has been brilliant, but Forrest just doesn’t lose the ball, he just keeps it.

“It’s going to be a strange one, I wouldn’t be concerned if Kuhn started so Forrest or Kuhn is either, or really.

“Maeda gives Tavernier nightmares, there will be a few sleepless nights for Tavernier I think, he gets caught all the time.

“I’m hoping it’s a good game and I hope it’s good for the telly because these are the games that everyone all over the world watch.

“So I hope it’s a good game, a lively one that’s a bit fiery. I like when the boys all get upset and have a tussle.

“But I do think Celtic will win.”
