James Trafford reacts to Illan Meslier’s message as ‘Leeds plan to accept offer’
Illan Meslier had an upbeat message for supporters despite ongoing speculation about his future at the club.
Leeds United lifted the Championship title in dramatic fashion on 3 May, with a stoppage-time goal from Manor Solomon securing top spot on goal difference in a 2-1 win against Plymouth Argyle.
Daniel Farke’s side finished level on 100 points with Burnley but edged them out thanks to their superior goal tally.
For much of the season, Meslier remained Farke’s first-choice goalkeeper and retained the backing of his manager, even after a string of high-profile mistakes.
However, his place in the team came under pressure, and he was eventually dropped for the last seven consecutive league matches.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Leeds are prepared to accept offers for Meslier this summer and already have replacements in mind.
Still, Meslier remained positive after Leeds’ title win, sharing a message with supporters to celebrate the club’s return to the Premier League.
Leeds line up Aaron Ramsdale and Sam Johnstone as Illan Meslier replacements
Meslier joined in the celebrations on Instagram following Leeds’s dramatic Championship title win, sharing photos from the full-time scenes with the caption: “Champions again.”
The post sparked reactions from several teammates and former players, with Pascal Struijk commenting with trophy emojis, and Luke Ayling writing: “2 time champ!!!!”
Tottenham’s Archie Gray and Burnley’s James Trafford, who was a title rival this season, also showed support by liking the post.
However, despite the celebrations, the club appear to be preparing for a future without Meslier. Football Insider revealed that Leeds are targeting Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, following a difficult season for him at Molineux.
Aaron Ramsdale has also emerged as a target for Leeds, as the former Arsenal shot-stopper may be keen on a Premier League return after Southampton’s relegation.

Daniel Farke could leave Leeds despite promotion success
Even after guiding the club back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, Farke’s position is not entirely secure.
Football Insider revealed Farke could consider walking away from Elland Road this summer amid the rumoured doubts within the club’s hierarchy over his long-term suitability.
There may be concerns over his previous Premier League record, which includes a 12% win rate from his time at Norwich City.
While he is currently expected to lead the team into the top flight, speculation over his future may persist if Leeds make a slow start to the new season.
