James Trafford responds to ‘huge’ message from Burnley star Josh Brownhill

Burnley shot-stopper James Trafford responded to a message from teammate Josh Brownhill on social media.

Following a 2-1 win over Norwich, the Clarets now find themselves in pole position for an immediate return to the Premier League.

Hannibal Mejbri opened the scoring for Scott Parker‘s side in the 14th minute, before Jaidon Anthony scored to make it 2-0 to the home side.

Jack Stacey made it 2-1, but Burnley showed their defensive solidity once again, holding out for all three points.

The cherry on top of the cake for the Clarets came in the form of Sheffield United losing to Plymouth, giving Parker’s side a five-point gap to the Blades.

Josh Brownhill praises ‘unreal’ support from Burnley fans

Following the win, Brownhill posted three images from the night’s action to Instagram, captioned: “Huge win last night, support was unreal!!! 4 more to go”.

Newcastle transfer target Trafford responded to the post by saying: “Skip”, with a raised-hands emoji, showing support to his captain after a close shave against Norwich.

Burnley have one foot back in the Premier League

Football Insider Verdict

A win for Burnley was a good result, but Sheffield United‘s loss made it a great one.

The race for promotion from the Championship has once again been a ferocious battle, but it seems the Clarets and Leeds have managed to outlast the Blades.

The concern for managers of each side will have been that finishing third and being forced into the playoffs may be a step too far.

As evidenced last year when Leeds finished third with 90 points, before failing to get promoted, failing to achieve promotion automatically is a lot worse than squeaking into the playoffs, where sides often get a second-wind and produce some of their best displays.

Despite stars such as Trafford and Marcus Edwards being linked with moves away, Parker will be unbothered if it means his side can achieve their aim of making it back to the big time.
