Jamie Carragher admits Mohamed Salah was right after Liverpool spat
Jamie Carragher has admitted Mohamed Salah was correct after the Liverpool talisman hit back with a dig at the former Reds defender after the win over Man City.
Carragher’s comments on Sky Sports last week (25 November) about the winger being selfish after he admitted he is “more out than in” at Anfield with his contract expiring in the summer and no new deal offered, appear to have caused a stir in the Liverpool dressing room.
Salah himself had a say on that after his side’s 2-0 win over Man City on Sunday (1st December), after being given Player of the Match for an excellent performance in that game.
After being told it was Gary Neville who picked the award, Virgil van Dijk claimed he was surprised it was not Carragher who selected the Egyptian for the prize in an interview on Sky Sports.
In response, Salah claimed that the former Liverpool centre-back would “never” pick him, and in this instance the Sky Sports pundit agreed.
Posting on X later that evening, Carragher confirmed he would instead have chosen Van Dijk.
Jamie Carragher may have a point with his Liverpool observation
Football Insider Opinion
There is an argument that for all that will be made about these comments in relation to the contract dispute, Carragher wasn’t wrong to pick Van Dijk as his Player of the Match.
With the exception of one slip late on that was dealt with by goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, the Dutchman was faultless defensively.
He cleared up just about every delivery Man City sent into the Liverpool penalty area, and shut things down on the rare occasions they looked to get in behind the defence.
I would’ve give it to VVD to be fair! https://t.co/RKvpBHTcFm

Van Dijk may also feel he was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, seeing one header from a corner turned onto the post, and he was off-target with other good chances from set-pieces.
Such an all-round performance means the centre-back was another very good shout to be highlighted from this latest Liverpool win.
Beyond that, the fact that the squad are able to joke about the Carragher situation is a good sign for Arne Slot’s side, showing they remain united and focused in the hunt for trophies despite this controversy even if the pundit’s claims have clearly registered in the dressing room.
In other news, Liverpool are working to sign a player who has been compared to Bukayo Saka.
