Jamie Carragher hails Arne Slot for what did to Liverpool star after ‘ridiculous’ moment vs Burnley

Jamie Carragher has praised Arne Slot for how he dealt with what he called a “ridiculous” moment in Liverpool’s last gasp 1-0 win against Burnley.

Slot’s squad selection hit the headlines before the game, with Alexander Isak being omitted, with the Dutchman explaining the reasons behind that decision in his pre-match interview.

Isak joined Liverpool on deadline day in a record breaking £125 million deal that saw him switch Newcastle for Liverpool.

Liverpool’s match against Burnley offers some of Slot’s summer additions a chance to gain some momentum, with Florian Wirtz in particular eyeing a big game.

One Liverpool star disappoints

Liverpool struggled early on in the match, with Slot looking agitated at his side’s performance in the Turf Moor dugout.

Slot’s side were poor in the first half, but perhaps none more so than Milos Kerkez, who was replaced midway through the first half by his manager.

Kerkez picked up a yellow card for a careless dive before being pulled up for a clumsy foul on Burnley’s Lyle Foster in the lead up to his substitution.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher praised how Slot dealt with Kerkez’s performance, saying: “I think that’s good management from Slot. What Kerkez did in the first half – with the booking – was ridiculous.”

Kerkez was part of a double full-back swoop for Liverpool in the summer, signing alongside right-back Jeremie Frimpong.

Frimpong returned to the bench against Burnley having only played one Premier League match so far this season, and witnessed Kerkez’s poor showing.

Kerkez, who has featured in all three of Liverpool’s first Premier League games has often been targeted by opposing managers.

Firstly it was Antoine Semenyo against Bouremouth on the opening night, then Anthony Elanga for Newcastle, before Noni Madueke targeted the Hungarian.

Slot will hope his new full-back can improve his performances in the coming weeks, with tough fixtures against Atletico Madrid and Everton due up next for his Liverpool side.
