Jamie Carragher: This Liverpool player should be dropped

By Emma Sanders

Jamie Carragher has claimed Liverpool should drop Loris Karius following yet another poor performance against West Ham in the Premier League.

Karius was arguably at fault in both goals as the Reds suffered a disappointing 2-2 draw against the Hammers at Anfield on Sunday afternoon and it proved costly.

He misjudged Dimitri Payet’s free-kick in the first half and despite getting a hand to it, did not do enough to prevent the playmaker from equalising shortly after Adam Lallana had given Liverpool the early lead.

The 23-year-old then failed to close down Michail Antonio and let in a soft goal following a mistake from Joel Matip, and Carragher believes it is time to bring Mignolet back into the side.

“I would change him for [Simon] Mignolet,” Carragher said on Sky Sports TV.

Mignolet was Liverpool’s number one at the start of the season while Karius recovered from a hand injury, but he was knocked off his perch for the 5-1 victory against Hull City.

Since then, Mignolet has made just two appearances in the EFL Cup and Jurgen Klopp has insisted Karius is the number one at Liverpool.

The Belgian has made a number of high-profile mistakes throughout his Anfield career and Liverpool hoped the arrival of Karius would block out any further goalkeeping mishaps.

The youngster has struggled to adapt though and criticism has already come in from a number of leading football pundits and former players.
