Jamie Carragher uses one word to describe Manchester City in both Real Madrid matches

Jamie Carragher has slammed Manchester City for being “overawed” in their Champions League semi-final letdown against Real Madrid.

Manuel Pellegrini’s team exited Europe’s leading competition with a whimper on Wednesday night as they lost 1-0 on aggregate to the 10-times winners.

A Gareth Bale first-half strike in the Bernabeu that took a deflection was the difference between the two sides over both legs.

But Real completely dominated the second leg and deserved to overcome the Premier League team and reach their second final in three years, where they will play city rivals Atletico Madrid.

City would have progressed to the final had they scored an away goal but they barely created a chance during 180 minutes against the Spanish giants.

Sky TV pundit and Liverpool legend Carragher was unimpressed with the displays of Pellegrini’s side over the two legs.

In other Manchester City news, Pep Guardiola has sanctioned a ruthless cull of the squad in the summer as seven senior players are set to be offloaded.
