Jamie Gittens reacts to Romeo Lavia after major Chelsea transfer update

Chelsea target Jamie Gittens has reacted to Blues midfielder Romeo Lavia, after a big update regarding his potential switch to Stamford Bridge.

The 20-year-old impressed for Borussia Dortmund last season, scoring eight goals and picking up three assists as Niko Kovac’s side secured Champions League football.

After completing his fourth campaign in the Bundesliga, the Englishman could be set for a move to the Premier League this summer.

However, despite trying to sign him ahead of the Club World Cup, Chelsea failed to get the Gittens deal over the line before last Tuesday’s (10 June) deadline, and could now even face the winger at the tournament in the United States.

Gittens to Chelsea still on

Chelsea decided against completing the Gittens move before the Club World Cup, but they could still go in for the youngster after the competition.

According to the Standard (12 June), Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl has left the door open for an agreement further down the line, saying that the two clubs remain on very good terms, while adding that they will “see” what happens in the future.

It is thought that Gittens is incredibly keen on the move, and the 20-year-old took to Instagram to react to one of his potential new teammates.

Midfielder Lavia shared a number of photos ahead of the Club World Cup, with the caption, “bring it on” and the Dortmund star liked the post.

Chelsea continue to spend big

Football Insider Verdict

Chelsea have already confirmed a host of summer signings, and it seems as if their transfer activity won’t be slowing down anytime soon.

Maresca has added Liam Delap to his ranks, after the Blues triggered a £30million release clause in the striker’s contract.

The West London side have also brought in Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg and Dario Essugo from Sporting Lisbon.

Last season, Chelsea finished fourth in the Premier League, 15 points adrift of title winners Liverpool, so their recruitment always needed to be exceptional this summer to help close the gap.

Even with all the recent additions, such a gulf is hard to address in one transfer window, but Maresca is being given the tools he needs to tackle the challenge.
