Jamie Redknapp: This Tottenham youngster can be an all-time great
By Harry Sykes
Jamie Redknapp hailed Dele Alli as a potential all-time great in the wake of his two-goal display for Tottenham on Wednesday night.
Alli scored the first and fourth of Spurs’ goals as they came from 1-0 down to beat Southampton 4-1 at St Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League.
It lifted the Spurs playmaker’s league haul for the season to six goals, which have been supplemented by a strike in the Champions League, to give him seven in all competitions.
Alli, 20, has now had a major hand in 26 goals in his first 50 Premier League appearances for Tottenham, with 16 goals supplemented by 10 assists.
This is a record second only to Rafael van der Vaart of all Spurs players over the last 25 years, a magnificent return for such a young player.

Sky Sports pundit and former Spurs player Redknapp is in no doubt about the ability of Alli.
“He is a sensational footballer, Tottenham are very lucky to have him,” Redknapp told Sky Sports 1’s live coverage of Spurs’ visit to St Mary’s Stadium. “He can absolutely become a great.
“He’s a £50million-plus player and, as long as Tottenham meet his ambitions, he can achieve anything he wants there. He’s a brilliant player and one anybody would like to have in their team.”
Alli’s double and goals from Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min enabled Spurs to overcome Virgil van Dijk’s early strike to secure a notable victory and consolidate their place at fifth in the Premier League table.
Tottenham have now won their last three top flight games after following up home triumphs against Hull and Burnley with the win at Southampton.
Pochettino’s team will be aiming for a fourth consecutive league win then they make their way to Vicarage Road on Sunday for an afternoon clash against Watford.
In other Tottenham news, this is why Spurs must make a January swoop for the final player recommended by Paul Mitchell.
