Jamie Redknapp wowed by Fulham star who was ‘best player on the pitch’ vs Aston Villa

Fulham were beaten 3-1 away at Aston Villa, but one star earned plenty of plaudits for his performance during the defeat.

Raul Jimenez went off injured for Fulham, having opened the scoring after three minutes from a Sasa Lukic corner.

Aston Villa, who beat Bologna 1-0 in midweek, got back on level terms through Ollie Watkins’ first goal of the Premier League season.

A quick-fire double from John McGinn and Emiliano Buendia put Aston Villa’s pre-match concerns to bed as the Villans secured their first win of the Premier League season.

Josh King wows again in impressive Aston Villa display

Fulham were the better team in the first half, and all of their positive play ran through academy product Joshua King.

King thought he should have had a penalty for Fulham, and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp agreed with him, before singing the 18-year-old’s praises.

Redknapp, speaking on Sky Sports, spoke about King, saying: “Josh King has been the best player on the pitch by a mile.

“He’s been so good, his movement, his skills, his passing forward, he’s been magnificent,” Redknapp continued.

Fulham drop costly points ahead of tough run of fixtures

Fulham entered the match against Aston Villa on the back of their resounding 3-1 victory over West London rivals Brentford.

Yet, after injuries to Rodrigo Muniz and Jimenez, and a second-half collapse at Villa Park, the mood around Fulham has now taken a hit.

Fulham face a tough five game run

The Cottagers will now look ahead to a trip away to Bournemouth, before a visit from Arsenal, and an away appearance against Newcastle United comes after the international break.

Silva will hope the injuries to Muniz and Jimenez aren’t serious as the difficulty of Fulham’s fixtures turns up a notch.
