Jamie Vardy sends message to Leicester fans after landmark achievement in final game

Jamie Vardy has delivered a message to Leicester City supporters after scoring his 200th Foxes goal in his 500th and final game.

The former England international made his final Leicester appearance exactly 13 years on from signing for the East Midlands club from Fleetwood Town.

Vardy’s remarkable story saw him join the Foxes from then non-league Fleetwood before going on to win the Premier League, the FA Cup, and two Championship titles.

The striker’s last season in Leicester colours has not ended successfully, as Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men have been relegated, even though the 38-year-old has notched nine goals and four assists in 35 Premier League outings.

Vardy is intent on remaining in the Premier League, while Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Wolves are in pole position to acquire his services.

Leicester face managerial decision with Van Nistelrooy set to leave

Van Nistelrooy’s time in the Leicester dugout has been far from a success, as he has steered the Foxes to an immediate relegation back to the Championship after replacing Steve Cooper.

With one Premier League game left to play, the Dutchman has yielded just five wins in 26 attempts as Leicester boss while enduring 18 defeats and three draws.

Under the 48-year-old’s questionable stewardship, the King Power Stadium side failed to win between their triumph at Tottenham on 26 January and their 2-0 victory over Southampton on 3 May.

It appears unlikely that the East Midlands club will want Van Nistelrooy as their boss heading into a Championship season, while promotion will be the goal.

As such, Leicester could set their sights on a move for ex-Wolves boss Gary O’Neil, who previously enjoyed a largely successful Premier League stint with Bournemouth.

The Foxes have also eyed Bristol City manager Liam Manning, who beat expectations and guided the Robins to the Championship playoffs.
