‘Jamie Vardy backed as perfect candidate to solve Man United striking woes’

Man United have been urged to sign Jamie Vardy as Ruben Amorim looks to bolster his struggling forward line.

The Red Devils finished just 15th in the Premier League last season, while their attack was a major contributing factor towards their top-flight woes.

Former Atalanta man Rasmus Hojlund regularly led the line for the Old Trafford club last season, but scored just four goals in 32 league appearances.

Following his uninspiring performances, Hojlund is linked with a Man United exit as Amorim hopes to reshape his squad.

Man United told Vardy is better than current forward options

Amid Amorim’s efforts to add more goals to his side, Man United want to sign Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

The Bees winger notched an impressive return of 20 goals and seven assists in 38 Premier League appearances last term.

However, the Old Trafford club must also add an out-and-out striker to their ranks and have been offered the chance to sign Vardy, according to a report from The Athletic on Tuesday, 8 July.

Meanwhile, playing ‘transfer Tinder’ live on talkSPORT [9 July], Dean Saunders said: “Jamie Vardy knows where to go when the ball’s in the box.

“If you put the ball in the box for him or slide through balls, he sets off before everybody else, and he continues.

“So I’m going to swipe right for yes. He’s better than what they’ve got.”

Amorim must sign more than just Vardy

Man United cannot argue with Saunders’ opinion that Vardy is better than their current forwards, as the 38-year-old scored nine goals in 35 Premier League appearances last term, which is significantly better than the returns managed by either Joshua Zirkzee or Hojlund.

Vardy was one of Leicester’s best players last season

However, the veteran’s age alone demonstrates that the Leicester City legend, who is available on a free transfer, can only be viewed as a short-term fix for Amorim.

The Red Devils had previously eyed a move for Viktor Gyokeres, but the prolific Sporting man is now set to join Premier League rivals Arsenal.

But the Gunners’ advances for Gyokeres could allow Man United to sign Benjamin Sesko, who has also attracted interest from the North Londoners.

Sesko performed well in the German Bundesliga for Leipzig last season, scoring 13 goals in 33 league appearances.

If Amorim were to sign both Vardy and Sesko, that would likely satisfy his needs, whereas the former Leicester man’s capture alone would not be enough.
