Jan Molby has stated that he has always thought that Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum was a “really good player.”
The 26-year-old Netherlands international made a £23million switch to Anfield from relegated club Newcastle in the summer.
He has featured in 12 encounters for the Merseysiders, scoring one goal and providing three assists following his move and Molby believes he fits the way the Reds want to play.
“Wijnaldum is a clever player,” told Molby to the official Liverpool website. “I have always thought he was a really good player and he fits the way we want to play.
“He breaks the lines and he makes great runs forward. He has had more of a deeper role so far at Liverpool, but it doesn’t surprise me that he can play there.
“He is technically very good and the more you see of him, the more you like. He has an excellent goalscoring record from midfield.”
Wijnaldum spent just one season with the Toon, playing in 40 fixtures and scoring 11 goals while providing five assists.
However, he was unable to keep Rafa Benitez’ side in England’s top flight before moving to Merseyside.
With the addition of Wijnaldum among others, Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently sat at the top of the Premier League table with 26 points after 11 fixtures.
They are currently one point clear of second place Chelsea and will head to St Marys to face Southampton after the break.
