Last-gasp Tottenham striker transfer failed after agreement reached – Sky journalist
By Harry Sykes
Vincent Janssen rejected the chance to leave Tottenham on deadline day, according to a reliable journalist.
Sky Sports correspondent Lyall Thomas claimed on his personal Twitter account that Spurs and Brighton had agreed a deal for the transfer of Janssen.
But the Holland international decided to reject a move to the Premier League new boys even though he has slipped even further down the striker pecking order at the club.
Janssen, 23, was in line for a late-window exit from Mauricio Pochettino’s side following the £12million capture of Fernando Llorente from Premier League side Swansea, which was confirmed earlier on deadline day.
The arrival of the Spain international leaves Janssen behind Llorente and Harry Kane in the pecking order for the centre-forward role in the title-challengers’ side.
However, the forward has opted to fight for his place at least until the January transfer window.
Janssen has failed to make an impression in north London since his £17million move from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar last summer.
He scored just two Premier League goals last season, with one of those being from the penalty spot, and just six times in all competitions.
In other Tottenham transfer news, Chris Sutton believes this Spurs signing helped make deadline day farcical.
