Jansson urges Leeds teammate on Twitter to pay fine for being late
By Harry Sykes
Pontus Jansson has chided Leeds United teammate Ronaldo Vieira on Twitter for being late for a signing session at the club’s city centre store on Thursday evening.
Jansson and Vieira were the club’s designated players due to autograph items for Leeds fans at 5pm at the Merrion Centre.
The Sweden international, 26, made it clear on his personal Twitter account that he had made it in time for the event, but mocked his younger teammate for missing the appointed start time.
Posting at 5.06pm, Jansson claimed Vieira was nowhere to be seen and joked that the midfielder, 19, should “pay the fine tomorrow morning and we are ok”, accompanied by a series of dollar sign emojis.
Jansson was referring to the fines process operated by most football clubs for players who are late for scheduled work-related events, such as training and transport collections.
Jansson and Vieira are two of the most popular players in the Leeds squad and key men as the club target promotion from the Championship.
The giant Swede joined on a permanent deal in the summer after a hugely impressive season-long loan in which his performances made him an instant terrace hero.
Midfielder Vieira also made a huge impression after graduating from the Leeds academy to establish himself as one of the outstanding young players outside of the top flight.
Both players are in contention to play against Burton on Saturday as United return to league action following the international break.
In other Leeds United news, the club have secured an out of window striker signing after agreeing the terms of a deal.
