Jarrad Branthwaite reacts to Idrissa Gueye’s emotional message after Everton contract update

Idrissa Gueye left a passionate message shared while on international duty, with his Everton future still hanging in the balance.

Everton are preparing for a significant summer overhaul as David Moyes embarks on his first summer transfer window back in charge.

The club has already confirmed several departures, with Abdoulaye Doucoure among those leaving Everton, joining Ashley Young and Joao Virginia in exits following the expiry of their contracts.

Gueye is another player whose deal is set to expire at the end of the month. While Everton are keen to keep hold of the experienced midfielder, talks have hit a stumbling block.

Everton have reportedly only offered a one-year extension to Gueye, who is believed to be holding out for a longer-term contract.

With his future uncertain, the Senegal international turned his focus to representing his country, sharing a heartfelt message with fans.

Idrissa Gueye in high spirits after Senegal make history against England

While his Everton future remains up in the air, Gueye has been away on international duty with Senegal.

The midfielder started in a commanding performance as his side defeated England 3-1 at the City Ground, becoming the first African nation to beat the Three Lions in an international friendly.

Following the result, Gueye shared an emotional message on Instagram, writing: “Praise be to God. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone involved in organising this historic game. Thank you, England, for the warm welcome.

“Proud of you boys. What a way to end the season!!!”

The post drew plenty of engagement from both club and international teammates, with Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, Iliman Ndiaye, and Jarrad Branthwaite among those to like it.

At club level, Gueye has been a key figure for Everton this season, making 40 appearances and missing just one Premier League match. He also registered three assists, underlining his importance in David Moyes’ midfield setup.

While several senior players are set to depart this summer, Everton are holding firm on Branthwaite’s future.

Former club CEO Keith Wyness has stated that Everton are under no pressure to sell Branthwaite, with the recent takeover by The Friedkin Group helping stabilise the club’s financial position.

The Englishman has been of interest of plenty of clubs with Man United and Chelsea eyeing Branthwaite’s situation.

He has two years remaining on his current contract, with an option to extend for a further 12 months, meaning the club remain in a strong position to fend off interest.
