Jean-Clair Todibo reacts to Alphonse Areola announcement at West Ham

Jean-Clair Todibo has reacted to a new announcement on social media regarding West Ham’s shot-stopper, Alphonse Areola.

With the Hammers sitting 16th in the Premier League table, but 17 points clear of the relegation zone, there has been little to cheer this season as Julen Lopetegui continued to sink the club.

David Sullivan’s decision to bring the Spaniard to West Ham was questioned from the very start, with his tactics and playing style producing no better results than what ran David Moyes out of East London.

The Hammers have only conceded fewer goals than Wolves, Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton, but that much goal-mouth action has allowed Areola to shine in between the sticks.

Alphonse Areola provides calmness behind a rocky defensive line

After back-to-back victories over Arsenal and Leicester City, Potter’s side finally looked to have found their groove in the Premier League, but March left supporters wanting far more from the team.

A narrow 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United was swiftly followed by a frustrating 1-1 draw against Everton, for which Konstantinos Mavropanos was blamed for West Ham dropping two points.

With just one point from two games, there was little to celebrate at the London Stadium, but Areola still managed to pick himself up and dust himself off in between the sticks, rightly earning his flowers.

West Ham’s caption read: “Alphonse’s save against Newcastle has been nominated for Premier League Save of the Month for March, with Todibo showing support for his teammate by liking the Instagram post.

Graham Potter must prepare for squad overhaul at West Ham

Football Insider verdict

Graham Potter has really been unable to lift his tenure off the ground in the early weeks, with the new manager being weighed down by plenty of deadweight in the squad.

With Michail Antonio, Crysencio Summerville and Niclas Fullkrug all sidelined for West Ham over the last few weeks, Jarrod Bowen has been expected to carry the weight of the club on his shoulders.

The Hammers have nothing left to fight for this season.

The usual output from Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus has been nowhere to be seen, leaving the Hammers to fall to 16th in the Premier League table, with no ambitions for the rest of the season.

Potter’s side no longer have anything to fight for, with relegation only a minute possibility, so all the players can do now is fight to keep their spot in the team ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The likes of Guido Rodriguez, Luis Guilherme, Edson Alvarez, Danny Ings and Mavropanos have all been tipped for summer exits, or at least the majority of the fanbase is praying for them to leave.
