Jean-Philippe Mateta stuns, Justin Devenny struggles: Crystal Palace player ratings vs Arsenal

Crystal Palace twice came from behind to hold Arsenal to a 2-2 draw in a London derby at the Emirates Stadium.

Oliver Glasner‘s side went into that game on Wednesday (23 April) looking to end a run of three games without a win ahead of their FA Cup semi final with Aston Villa at the weekend.

But they fell behind to a Jakub Kiwior header after just three minutes, before Ebere Eze‘s excellent volley pulled the visitors level, only for Leandro Trossard to put the hosts 2-1 just before half time.

With less than ten minutes of normal time remaining, the Eagles would pull level thanks to a stunning finish from Jean-Philippe Mateta as he capitalised on an error from William Saliba, which proved enough to ensure the game ended all square at 2-2.

Here is a look at how Football Insider rated the performances of the Crystal Palace squad during that clash with Arsenal.

Dean Henderson – 7

Henderson saw talk of a return to Man United played down recently, but wasn’t at fault for either goal and made an excellent save to deny Bukayo Saka shortly before his side’s second equaliser.

Jefferson Lerma – 6

Brought in to the side to replace the suspended Chris Richards after his controversial red at Bournemouth, did ok in what is not his natural position.

Maxence Lacroix – 6

One or two moments where he looked under pressure but generally another solid central defensive performance.

Marc Guehi – 7

Saw a close range header well saved by Raya from a corner, and didn’t do too much wrong from a defensive perspective.

Daniel Munoz – 6

Nothing too spectacular from either perspective from the wing-back.

Adam Wharton (off for Hughes, ’63) – 7

Fired in some dangerous deliveries from corners, including the one that led to Eze’s goal, and did well from open play.

Daichi Kamada – 6

Not a night where he could influence things a great deal from the centre of the park.

Tyrick Mitchell – 5

Looked to be caught out at times defensively, and didn’t offer much getting forward.

Ebere Eze produces brilliant equaliser

Justin Devenny (off for Esse, ’80) – 4

A frustrating night for the young midfielder as he struggled to link up at times and couldn’t make the most of some good opportunities. Booked as well.

Ebere Eze (off for Sarr, ’63) – 8

A really nicely taken volley to get his side level using the bounce brilliantly, and looked lively at other times as well. Eze has been linked with Liverpool and may have caught the eye again here.

Eddie Nketiah (off for Mateta, ’80) – 6

Worked hard and caused trouble for the Arsenal before getting in some dangerous positions, but couldn’t find a finishing touch.

Oliver Glasner sub turns the tables for Crystal Palace

Ismaila Sarr (on for Eze, ’63) – 7

Lively after his introduction, continuing his decent season.

Will Hughes (on for Wharton, ’63) – 6

A steady performance, a new contract for Hughes look a smart move for Crystal Palace.

Romain Esse (on for Devenny, ’80) – 5

A rare outing for the young winger.

Jean-Philippe Mateta (on for Nketiah, ’80) – 9 – Player of the Match

Just wow. An incredible lofted finish over David Raya to punish Saliba’s error and pull Crystal Palace level. In the time he had on the pitch he had the ideal impact.
