Jeff Stelling makes ‘really harsh’ Jack Grealish claim as Man City exit expected
Jack Grealish may have played his last game for Man City after Pep Guardiola’s latest comments comparing him to Savinho, according to Jeff Stelling.
Grealish was an unused substitute as the Cityzens secured a 4-1 victory over West Ham on 4 January. A brace from Erling Haaland, an own goal by Vladimir Coufal, and a strike from Phil Foden earned City the win.
Following the match, Guardiola addressed starting Savinho ahead of the English winger and said “Savinho is in better shape and everything than Jack” [via CityXtra on Youtube].
Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, Stelling reacted to these comments and said: “I think he’s finished there. I’m sorry, because that’s really harsh.
“Jack Grealish is a wonderful player. I love watching Jack, but I never really felt that he fitted that well into Pep’s masterplan”.
He later added, “I’ve never felt that Jack has been 100% comfortable with that move [Moving to Man City from Aston Villa] and I’ve watched him on numerous occasions and he certainly doesn’t have the freedom to play like he did at Villa”.
Man City need players that are more consistent than Jack Grealish
Football Insider opinion
Not only was Guardiola impressed with Savinho, but fans are also convinced he’s the ideal fit for the left side of the team.
Grealish, on the other hand, has faced criticism for his underwhelming performances this season. He is yet to score a goal and has failed to find the back of the net in 2024.

With Savinho now seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order, it may be time for the English international to seek a new club.
There have been links to Tottenham, but his high wages could make a move to North London difficult to facilitate.
Even before Savinho’s standout performances, Grealish’s form was already a concern for the club. Football Insider revealed that City could consider selling him due to the lack of form recently.
Guardiola’s side are experiencing a season like no other, sitting sixth and 12 points off the top of the table. As a result, it’s understandable that ruthless decisions might be made, including cutting underperforming players.
In other news, Man City could still make a big-money move for this Premier League star.
