Jens Hjerto-Dahl is wanted by both Celtic and Rangers this summer transfer window after heavily impressing at Tromso.

The 20-year-old central midfielder was already known to plenty of European sides before the start of the 2026 Eliteserien season earlier this month.

However, his form has exploded at the beginning of the campaign, and he netted a wonderful hat-trick in a 4-0 victory against Fredrikstad in the opening match of the season.

On 29 March, il Resto del Carlino confirmed that Celtic and Rangers were one of numerous sides interested in the youngster.

Now, Football Insider has examined why he should become Celtic’s top target this summer.

Tromso set to demand up to £8.7m for Jens Hjerto-Dahl

In recent weeks, goalscoring has been a big issue for Celtic.

Not only are their attackers struggling to find the net, but there have been little to no goals coming from their midfield as well.

This is something that Hjerto-Dahl would solve. His threat from the centre of the pitch is extraordinary. Last season alone, he provided eight goal contributions in the Eliteserien, and he is already closing in on this total just two games in.

On top of this, his possession and defensive skills are extremely impressive for his age.

Last season, he was averaging 1.51 successful dribbles, 4.57 touches in the opposition box, 2.19 tackles and 4.04 recoveries per 90 minutes.

Therefore, Tromso’s £8.7million asking price might seem steep, but it is clear that he would provide quality on the pitch from day one, and he is likely to only get better.

On top of this, if Celtic don’t make him their number one target, there is a chance he could go to Rangers, which would be a huge blow for the Hoops.

What are Celtic’s summer transfer business plans?

As it stands, the summer transfer window does not look too exciting, with Football Insider exclusively revealing that Champions League qualification is crucial for Celtic if they are to afford a complete squad rebuild.

While a busy summer of recruitment is likely anyway, qualifying for Europe’s most prestigious competition is vital to their transfer strategy.

Currently, the Hoops are set to miss out on the Champions League, as they sit third in the table, and could even end up in the Conference League if they do not win the Scottish Cup.

Therefore, a bright end to the season is needed, as they remain two points off Rangers in second, and five off Heart of Midlothian at the summit.

If things do not change, then it seems unlikely that they would be able to bring in Hjerto-Dahl in the summer.
