Jeremie Frimpong reacts to Piero Hincapie’s emotional message after stunning display
Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie dispatched an emotional message on social media following his fantastic display whilst on international duty.
Arsenal completed the signing of Hincapie on deadline day to add depth and bolster the defensive line following Jakub Kiwior’s departure.
The Gunners had initially explored a permanent transfer by triggering his £52 million release clause, but he was signed on a loan with an option to buy, and Arsenal fans praised sporting director Andrea Berta after a loan proposal was accepted for the top talent.
For now, the defender had focused on the international break as Ecuador beat Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers.
Hincapie performed brilliantly for Ecuador, as he helped limit Argentina to no shots on target, as well as three clearances, five recoveries and two tackles in the match.
Following the victory over the reigning World Cup champions, the defender shared a message on social media.

Piero Hincapie in high spirits after Ecuador beat Argentina
Hincapie posted on Instagram following Ecuador’s vital victory over Argentina in the final international game of the break and reflecting on his standout display.
He said: “Goal one achieved. Now let’s go for the most important: to leave the name of my Ecuador at the highest. Thanks to you, we didn’t play alone yesterday: we were 12 on the pitch.”
His post drew reactions from across the Premier League, with Liverpool’s Jeremie Frimpong and fellow Ecuadorian Moises Caicedo both liking the post.
Excitement continues to grow over his arrival at the Emirates, with Arsenal having successfully hijacked Tottenham’s previous attempt to sign Hincapie.
The defender had been a key figure for Leverkusen and played an important role in their historic 2023-24 campaign, where the club won both the Bundesliga undefeated.
Arsenal open to Gabriel Jesus exit after summer investment
Following a record summer of spending, the Gunners will be looking to balance the books in the upcoming window.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 9 September that Arsenal are already considering offloading Gabriel Jesus in January.
The Gunners splashed over £250million on incomings and had the highest net spend in the window. Despite selling fringe players such as Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi-Lokonga, they recouped just £8m.
Jesus had been linked to a move back to Brazil in the summer, but his recovery from the ACL injury that he suffered last January will play a crucial role if the club decides to sell the striker.
