Jeremie Frimpong sends Florian Wirtz message amid link-up as Liverpool move beckons
Jeremie Frimpong has reacted to Florian Wirtz on social media as the German playmaker closes in on following his former Bayer Leverkusen teammate to Liverpool.
Liverpool are in the midst of a busy summer transfer window as they seek to challenge for the Premier League title again next season following their successful 2024/25 campaign.
The Reds were always anticipating needing to bring in a new right-back this summer, and with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s exit confirmed at the start of May, Arne Slot turned his attention to a new signing in that position the form of Netherlands international Frimpong, who arrived in a £29.6million [The Athletic] deal from Leverkusen on 30 May.
Their raid of the 2023/24 Bundesliga champions does not look to be ending there, however, with Florian Wirtz close to a move to Anfield after Football Insider revealed on last month that Liverpool were making progress towards a huge deal to sign the German international despite serious interest in his services from Bayern Munich.
Frimpong and Wirtz are close friends from their four years spent together at Leverkusen, and the Reds right-back has moved to send a message to his potential new teammate that is sure to excite supporters of the Premier League champions.

Frimpong reacts to Wirtz as pair link-up ahead of potential reunion on Merseyside
The Reds are seemingly close to finalising a move for Wirtz after The Athletic recently reported that they had agreed a €136.3million (£116m) total fee for his signature with Leverkusen.
Wirtz is pencilled in for his Liverpool medical on Friday (20 June) [The Athletic], but is currently on holiday after featuring in the Nations League for Germany against Portugal and France.
His time-off has seen him connect with new Reds man Frimpong as he prepares to follow him to Anfield, with the German sharing a picture of the duo to his Instagram story on Tuesday (17 June), to which Frimpong re-posted and shared a message to his friend, saying: “My boy” with a love-heart emoji.

Liverpool will not stop at signing Wirtz as they chase a successive Premier League title
Football Insider verdict
Wirtz’ post and Frimpong’s two-word reaction is a sure nod to their pending reunion on Merseyside, and Liverpool supporters will hope that the pair can connect well on the pitch next season as they aim to defend the Reds’ Premier League crown.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder is obviously set to be the most high-profile addition of their window, but he will definitely not be the last, despite the Reds’ wage bill surpassing £400million for the first time in the 2024-25 season, as revealed by Football Insider.

Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike is a target for Slot ahead of the new season, but they will need to offload a forward to bring him in with Darwin Nunez expected to leave Anfield soon.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (13 June) that the Reds have been told it would take an offer of £75-80million to sign Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon this summer, so more big spending is likely alongside Wirtz and Frimpong’s respective arrivals.
They are clearly not short on money, with football finance expert Dan Plumley revealing to Football Insider on 12 June that Liverpool’s revenue and recent on-field success means they can afford deals for Wirtz and other targets with relative ease in the coming months, and supporters will expect more success next season after such a fruitful window.
