‘Jim Ratcliffe aims all INEOS financial muscle at Man United amid Tottenham talks’

Man United part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s latest moves may be a positive for the club amid INEOS talks to end involvement at rivals Tottenham, Simon Jordan has suggested.

Ratcliffe completed a deal to become a minority owner of one of England’s most successful clubs in February 2024. However, the British billionaire has come under fire for his controversial decision making surrounding the club.

Now, INEOS are attempting to cut short another sponsorship, that currently sees the logo for their 4 x 4 Grenadier car displayed on the seats in the dugout for Tottenham‘s home stadium.

The deal is understood to be worth several million pounds a year, money that could instead be redirected towards United.

Speaking on talkSPORT about the current situation at United, former Crystal Palace chairman, Jordan, said: “So let me get this right, INEOS were sponsoring something to do with Tottenham Hotspur? Tottenham Hotspur were getting money from it?

“So you really wanna be in the same division, bankrolling a competitor, whilst giving money to that competitor?

“So what I would suggest to you, that what Jim Ratcliffe might be doing – just food for thought – is my (Ratcliffe’s) focus is in one sporting area now. I don’t want to be a ‘jack-of-all’ I want to be a ‘master-of-one’.

“So, I want to streamline all of my resources, every single financial piece of muscle that I am able to bring to bear, to Manchester United.

“That’s the business I’ve now spent a billion pounds of my money…and I’m not going to better Tottenham Hotspur’s position.

“If I’m contractually able, to get out of my contracts, I am going to take that opportunity.”

INEOS cut ties with Tottenham and New Zealand rugby in bid to fix Man United

Football Insider Verdict

New Zealand Rugby (NZR) launched legal action against INEOS, after they allegedly cut short a long-term sponsorship agreement.

The agreement between the two parties was struck in 2021, and began in 2022 through to 2028, but NZR have claimed that INEOS failed to pay the first instalment of the sponsorship fee in 2025.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that INEOS are to blame for Man United’s recent downfall, as the club look set for another wave of staff redundancies.

250 Man United staff members were let go in the summer 2024, and following news that there would be another round of cuts, staff at Man United blamed INEOS’ summer recruitment their sacking.

The Red Devils are currently in a miserable state, as the team sit 15th in the Premier League table under Ruben Amorim, but amid doubts about the finances at Ratcliffe’s company the latest move might not be a sign of problems behind the scenes.

The money saved could potentially be used to re-build the squad in Amorim’s likeness, with a number of players struggling to fit into his 3-4-2-1 system.

Since then Casemiro has struggled, often looking unable to keep pace with the Premier League, and was expected to leave the club this summer.

However, United will not have the funds from his exit available until June 2026, when the Brazilian’s £350,000-a-week deal expires.
