‘Jim Ratcliffe could be lying to fans as Man United approve double deal’
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made no secret of Man United’s poor financial situation in recent months and has claimed the club is close to going bust on a number of occasions.
However, looking ahead to an important summer window – David Ornstein has reported (23 April) that United are prioritising deals for Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap this summer.
He claimed the finances are already in place to do those deals and they don’t depend on the club qualifying for Europe or agreeing player sales despite Ratcliffe’s dramatic previous claims.
United sit 14th in the Premier League table and must win the Europa League to play continental football next season.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has revealed his confusion, claiming “someone somewhere isn’t telling the truth”.

Man United ‘nowhere near going bust’ as Ratcliffe claims
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has insisted Man United are “nowhere near” going bust – as claimed by Ratcliffe in a series of recent interviews.
The billionaire has suggested the club are on the brink as he justifies job cuts and more at Old Trafford.
United have posted a loss over the past five years, totalling over £370million.
Position | Team | Played | Points | GD |
12 | Crystal Palace | 34 | 45 | -4 |
13 | Wolves | 34 | 41 | -10 |
14 | Man United | 34 | 39 | -8 |
15 | Everton | 34 | 38 | -7 |
16 | Tottenham | 34 | 37 | 6 |
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’m very surprised by this, but I don’t necessarily agree 100% with Ornstein on this.
“Don’t forget, Ratcliffe told us the company was about to go bust – so how can all this money suddenly re-appear?
“Someone somewhere isn’t telling the truth, I hope it’s not Ratcliffe.
“If there are big funds in place for the summer, then they were nowhere near going bust.
“I don’t know whether this includes the sale of players, or the winning of the Europa League final – which is their only hope, as far as I can see it.”

Casemiro exit latest after Amorim U-turn
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (28 April) that Casemiro is still likely to exit Man United this summer despite Amorim changing his mind on the veteran midfielder.
The 33-year-old has been one of United’s better performers in recent weeks and months after being sidelined in Amorim’s early tenure at Old Trafford.
However, sources say United will have to consider parting with the Brazil international if a good offer arrives for his services.
