Jim Ratcliffe must leave Man United alone – he’s facing accusations again

Jim Ratcliffe has been urged to stop interfering with Manchester United’s transfer business.

The Red Devils are coming off the back of a terrible campaign, in which they fell to their worst-ever Premier League finish of 15th.

Ruben Amorim’s side also lost the Europa League final to Tottenham, meaning they will not play European football next season.

So far this summer, United have brought in Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, as they look to rebuild their squad.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that despite the two additions, Amorim’s side have had a poor window.

‘Ratcliffe is interfering with Man United transfers’

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Ratcliffe needs to stop interfering with Man United’s transfer business and leave it to the experts.

The Red Devils had to pay an extra £26m to confirm the signing of Mbeumo, with some indicating that it was down to the INEOS owner’s poor negotiation skills.

Wyness added that United are missing opportunities in the transfer market due to Ratcliffe’s simplistic approach.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Ratcliffe could have had Branthwaite from Everton if they’d come in at a sensible level before. So they’re missing opportunities because he’s playing it too simplistically. There’s a much more sophisticated way that the transfer market operates.

They got the Mbeumo deal across the line, but it was looking dodgy for a while. I think Spurs were coming in and offering that £70m.

Is he worth it? I think with him and Cunha, they still need a striker in front of those two. That’s the key that we haven’t seen yet, that striker. Right now, they’re going to be stuck with what they’ve got.

There is a danger that United will miss out if they don’t move quickly, and I think it’s possibly Ratcliffe who’s interfering in transfers. I know he’s been accused of doing it in his cycling team, getting involved in the details and the actual hiring of cyclists. I would hope that he leaves this to the experts, because at the moment they’re playing a poor game.”

Man United make decision on signing Chelsea star

Meanwhile, Man United will only make a move for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson if the price is right, sources have told Football Insider.

Jackson has been heavily linked with a Stamford Bridge exit this summer, after the Blues signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.

However, sources say that United are in a difficult financial position, and they can’t afford to sign the 24-year-old if Chelsea set a high asking price.

Reportedly, the West London side want over £80million for the Senegal international, which would be too expensive for the Red Devils (Sky Sports).
